St John Maesteilo
Worship Church services at St John's consist of Holy Communion on the 1st Sunday of every month and either Morning Prayer or a Family Service alternating on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Services usually start at 09.45. Family Services are aimed particularly at children but are suitable for all the family and tend to have a more informal approach and are followed by refreshments. During 2002, a total of 614 people attended church services with the biggest attendance on 6 October for the Harvest Festival service, when 71 people came to the church and we ran out of hymn books. Functions 2002 was a busy year for functions, the highlight of which was possibly the Golden Jubilee Lamb Roast held on the 23rd June at The Mount, Capel Isaac. Other events included talks on the Inca Trail (Sharon Naylor), a Pictorial History of Swansea (David Govier) and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path (Richard Chodecki). There was also an Easter Fair at St Teilo's in April, a sponsored walk in July, a quiz night in September and a race night in Llanfynydd in November. These events raised a grand total of £3737, which included a grant for the local history display shown at the Golden Jubilee party and the Sponsored walk. Renovations A reconditioned second hand organ was bought and put into the church in time for Easter and the cost of this, around £300, was met through generous donations. The paperwork for an area of land, which was believed to be owned by the church, was formalised and it is hoped that this may be turned into hard standing for a car park in due course. A mains water supply was laid to the church by May and the layout of the church altered so that a kitchen could be installed allowing functions to be held more easily. Work on the new heating and lighting systems started in the Autumn with the majority of the work being completed early in the New Year. The total expenditure for the year was £2549, which also covered engineering costs. The coming year will also see further repairs to some of the main windows, repairs to the plastering and finally painting of the interior to finish the job off! It is anticipated that all this will be completed by October 2003 when St John's celebrates its Centenary with a service of rededication at which the Bishop of St David's will officiate.
